About Mara McCalmon

Mara is a passionate advocate for supporting crime victims. She is the founder of

P.S. You’re My Hero, an organization that was born out of a family’s tragedy. In November 2010 her family found themselves going through the unthinkable, a home invasion, murder, and betrayal. From that point on they were thrown into a completely unknown world including the physical, emotional, and financial obstacles of a crime. They were facing the mountain of all mountains that included their new reality, beginning the healing process, attending, and testifying at hearings, trials, and sentencing, and trying to find their new normal. As a family, they lifted, supported, and carried each other through every step. Mara has written a powerful memoir titled, "The Sound of Safety: When all that's left is love, hope and truth" where she shares in detail what life was like before, during and after events that made national headlines. And she reveals what's required to heal from trauma.
